What the Encoder Does in the System

In an AV over IP architecture the encoder is the source-side endpoint. It captures HDMI video and audio, compresses it with H.264 or H.265, and places it on the network as a stream. Any decoder on the same network can then display that source — or several decoders can display it simultaneously for point-to-multipoint distribution.

ST52K: Dual-Channel AV-over-IP Encoder with 4K HDMI over IP and H.264/H.265

The ST52K is a dual-channel AV-over-IP encoder and 4K HDMI over IP encoder for source-side IP video distribution. It works as an H.264 video encoder and H.265 video encoder with selectable low-latency mode for live operation and KVM, and high-quality mode for video walls and recording.

Connect any HDMI source, multicast the stream across a managed 1GbE switch fabric, and any SR52K decoder on the network can subscribe — the foundation of a scalable network video matrix without a fixed matrix chassis.

How does an AV-over-IP encoder work?

The encoder compresses the HDMI input to an H.264/H.265 stream and multicasts it over the 1GbE network. Any AV-over-IP decoder on the same fabric can subscribe to that stream, so one encoder can serve many displays, video walls and recording servers simultaneously.
