Construction Site AI Video Analytics — Helmet & PPE Detection on the Cameras You Already Have

A construction site changes every week — the safety rules should not depend on somebody walking the fence line. ADHOOPU applies construction site AI video analytics to the cameras already on site: helmet detection, PPE compliance, exclusion zones, fire and smoke, and after-hours intrusion, with alarms delivered while the incident is still preventable.

The Site Challenge

A construction site changes every week. Zones move, subcontractors rotate, and the safety rules that applied to yesterday's layout no longer match today's. Supervision by walking the site cannot keep up with that rate of change.

PPE Compliance Varies by Crew

Helmets, high-visibility vests and harnesses are mandatory, but each subcontractor enforces them differently. Without continuous monitoring, compliance depends on who is watching that day.

Exclusion Zones Keep Moving

Crane lifting areas, excavation edges and plant operating zones are redefined as the build progresses. Fences are moved; the risk boundary does not move with them.

Fires Start in Stored Materials

Timber, insulation, gas bottles and waste accumulate in areas that are supervised least. Smoke usually appears long before flame is visible to a patrol.

Night and Weekend Exposure

Plant, cable and copper are most exposed when the site is empty. Perimeter intrusion after hours is rarely detected in time to prevent loss.

Evidence After an Incident

Proving that a risk was identified and controlled requires structured records, not a hard drive of unindexed video retrieved weeks later.

Camera Estate Already Exists

Most sites already have cameras for progress photos and basic security. They record incidents; they do not prevent them.

ADHOOPU Architecture

The upgrade is additive. Existing cameras and the site recorder stay in place; an analytics layer reads their streams and turns them into events. Nothing is replaced and nothing is re-cabled.

Edge Layer — On Site

The QG-615AI16 edge AI box analyses up to 16 camera streams on site. Only events cross the network, so a limited site uplink is enough to keep the head office informed.

Centre Layer — Head Office

Where several sites or phases must be supervised together, an AI compute server centralises analytics across 96, 128 or 352 channels and compares behaviour between projects.

Platform Layer

The AI video intelligence platform manages devices, algorithms and alarms, and produces the statistical reporting that safety audits and principal contractors ask for.

What the System Detects

The algorithm library is the same one used across all ADHOOPU industrial deployments — 100+ algorithms with more than 10 running concurrently on a single camera. The categories below are the ones construction and infrastructure projects use most.

Helmet & PPE Detection

  • Helmet worn or missing
  • High-visibility vest
  • Safety harness in defined areas
  • Gloves, glasses and mask rules

Exclusion Zone & Intrusion

  • Person inside a crane or plant zone
  • Excavation edge encroachment
  • Restricted area after hours
  • Wall climbing and perimeter breach

Fire & Smoke

  • Flame detection in open areas
  • Smoke in material storage
  • Hot-work area monitoring
  • Waste and gas bottle zones

Vehicle & Plant Safety

  • Person and vehicle proximity
  • Reversing area intrusion
  • Site traffic route deviation

Fall & Behaviour Risk

  • Person down or fall detected
  • Gathering in unsafe areas
  • Smoking in prohibited zones
  • Sleeping on duty

Structured Records

  • Alarm with snapshot, camera, zone
  • Searchable event history
  • Trend reporting per zone and crew

Business Value

Prevention Instead of Report

An alarm arrives while a person is still in the exclusion zone, not in the incident report written afterwards. That is the difference between a near miss and a lost-time injury.

Evidence for Principals and Insurers

Structured alarm records and retained event video demonstrate that supervision controls were in place and operating — the evidence principal contractors and insurers ask for after a claim.

Reuse the Existing Camera Estate

Sites rarely buy AI cameras as a first purchase. The analytics layer works with what is already installed, so the project fits an operating budget instead of a capital one.

Scale With the Project

One box covers a single site today. When a second phase opens, another box or a central server adds capacity without re-engineering the first site.

Recommended Products

QG-615AI16 Edge AI Box

16 channels of local analytics per box, fanless and low-power. Suits a single site, a gate area or a high-risk zone where only events should leave the site.

AI Video Analytics Server

96 / 128 / 352 channel centralised analysis for group head offices supervising several projects, with optional large-model re-checking.

AI Cameras (Optional)

Where a new position is genuinely required — a gate, a crane base, a material store — ADHOOPU AI PTZ and bullet cameras extend coverage into the gaps.

Integration

The analytics layer feeds the systems already used on site rather than creating another silo.

Existing VMS or NVR

Alarms and metadata are delivered over HTTP, MQTT, WebSocket or REST API, so the recording platform already on site remains the system of record.

Site Safety Systems

Event outputs can drive alarm sounders, gate interlocks, access control or a safety dashboard through the same API layer.

Multi-Site Consolidation

Edge boxes at each site report to one platform, giving a single alarm console and consistent algorithm configuration across every project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to replace the cameras already on site?
No. The analytics layer reads streams from the cameras and recorders already on site over ONVIF, RTSP, GB28181 or RTMP. Cameras keep recording as before; they simply start producing events as well. Where a zone has no coverage at all, additional AI cameras can be added only where they are needed.
How does helmet and PPE detection work on a construction site?
The model detects people first, then classifies the protective equipment on each detected person: helmet, high-visibility vest, gloves, safety glasses or harness. PPE detection is evaluated per detected person and per zone, so a helmet rule can apply inside the crane exclusion zone but not in the site office. When a required item is missing, an alarm is raised with the snapshot, camera and zone.
Does it work at night, in rain or with dust and vibration?
Yes. The analytics run on the video stream, so low-light or IR output from the existing cameras is analysed normally. Rain, dust and lighting changes are filtered to avoid the false alarms that motion detection produces, and the appliance itself is fanless with no rotating parts, which suits dusty sites.
Can alarms reach the site manager on a phone?
Yes. Events are pushed to the platform and can be forwarded over HTTP, MQTT, WebSocket or REST API to an existing VMS, a control room screen or a notification service, so the site manager, safety officer and head office can all receive the same alarm.
How many cameras can one site support?
One QG-615AI16 edge box analyses up to 16 camera streams locally. Larger or multi-phase sites use several boxes, or centralise streams to an AI compute server handling 96, 128 or 352 channels, with edge devices managed from the same platform.
Is the construction site AI available for OEM or private label?
Yes. Hardware, algorithm packaging and platform branding can be supplied under the partner's own brand for system integrators and distributors. Full technical documentation is released to qualified partners after an introductory call.
