Southern Medical University, located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, is one of the first and only national key universities jointly established by ministries and provinces in China. It is also one of the first eight universities in China to offer an eight year clinical medicine program. It is the only medical institution among the key construction universities of high-level universities in Guangdong Province and one of the first pilot universities for the Education and Training Program for Excellent Doctors (Traditional Chinese Medicine) in China. The school has been selected as a national high-level university public graduate program, a 2.0 base for cultivating top students in basic disciplines, a national "key discipline project" construction university, and one of the first batch of pilot universities in the national excellent doctor education and training program.
